Steuben Day Parade
There are events that occur in the USA that involve
participation by Turners and their Societies. One such event
is the Steuben Day Parade which takes place in several large cities
and towns across this country. This year the Steuben Day
Parade in New York City celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
Honorary Grand Marshall this year was former Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger and former German
Chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl was the Guest of Honor. The parade travels up the east side of
Central Park on 5th Avenue from 61st Street to just past 86th
Street.
Turner Post 1680 of the American Legion has the
honor to be the color guard leading off the parade with the Steuben
Day flag and national flags of
Germany, and the USA. These are the
flags saluted in a short mid-parade ceremony which takes place at the Reviewing
Stand where the honored guests speak.
Many German and German-American societies as
well as local marching bands and pipers participate in the parade
which takes hours to complete. It is a very colorful spectacle
with music, costumes, floats and performances throughout the entire
route.
The American Turner's New York District is represented by ATNY and the
Long Island Turners.

There are several other activities throughout the
weekend. Turner Post 1680 also takes part in the Blessing of
the Flags Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral prior to the parade.
We invite Turners from all societies to send in
material from their Steuben Day or any other events that are
celebrated across the country. |
